About Me

Welcome! I am the STEM Savvy Mentor. A mechanical engineer who is also a dedicated mentor. I started mentoring and found my love of engineering as a sophmore on a high school FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. It turns out that I love solving engineering problems. I also really love helping others any way that I can, but especially those pursuing STEM careers.

After graduating college, I took a job in the oil and gas industry as a rotating equipment engineer in Houston, TX. Now, I am a mechanical integrity engineer for an engineering consulting firm helping oil and gas companies operate reliably. In my spare time, I help run a non-profit where I also mentor high school students.

Getting girls excited about STEM is something I am very passionate about. There are many social conventions that deter girls from pursuing STEM careers and being confident in thier own abilities. Throughout my childhood and career, I have experienced a lot of opposition. It is my hope that I can do little things to help other women recognize thier own capability and build thier confidence.

My most proud moments in the past few years have been increasing my vulerability with the students I mentor. This actually resulted in more students opening up to me about more than just technical challenges. Through opening up more, I have had opportunities to help people in new, fulfilling ways.

I am now exploring a new project: blogging. Sharing my experiences, struggles and failures with others is kind of scary. But I want to help others who may be struggling. I plan to provide motivation and build a community of creative, talented and passionate people who enjoy helping others.
